On October 6, Mercedes-Benz hosted a virtual capital markets day updating its long-term growth strategy. The carmaker's new measures will enforce a move toward product profitability, rather than sales volumes. Daimler believe they can do this by narrowing in on electric and autonomous vehicles. The trend is being recognised across the board, with global car sales expected to be 50% electric by 2025.
But what EV would you buy on today's market? What would stop you from buying electric? Do you even need a car in your day-to-day life? We created a survey to find out just that.
The shift to EVs has been sparked by a global recognition that our climate is changing as a result of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions making up 28% of total emissions. By comparison residential emissions contribute just 6%. Within emissions related to transport, light duty vehicles (cars we drive) contribute 59%.
